There are three paramount considerations to the death of Christ at Calvary: the amount He was sold for, thirty pieces of silver; the statements that He testified while on the Cross, there were seven; and the day in which He died.
The Lord Jesus Christ died on the Cross after being sold for 30 pieces of silver. The question that begs to be asked is why 30? The price of a dead slave according to Exodus 21:32 was 30 pieces of silver, Exodus 21:32 “If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.” Seeing that the Head Priest considered Jesus nothing more than a false teacher it is no wonder he would offer Judas Iscariot the slave money. Secondly, the Prophet Zechariah, being inspired by God and writing as the coming Jehovah- Messiah claimed the rejected Shepherd’s worth would be thirty pieces of silver Zechariah 11:12, “And I said unto them, If ye think good give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.” Judas received 30 pieces of silver according to Matthew 26:15 “And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.” The silver was used to purchas3e the field of blood according to Acts 1:18 “Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.” Think of it, Christ was sold for half of the worth of a free man, to die on the Cross of Calvary for sinners, who reject Him. What a Savior!
The Lord Jesus Christ was hung on the Cross and there are several (seven) recorded statements given by Him:
1. Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
2. Luke 23:43 “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
3. John 19:26 “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”
4. John 19:28 “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.”
5. Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
6. Luke 23:46 “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
7. John 19:30 “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
The day of our Lord’s death has been debated for ions, but the facts are there in the Scriptures for the discerning Bible student. The Bible does claim (it is recognized that the Jewish Sabbath day was on Saturday) in Mark 15:42  “And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath.” The Scriptures proclaim that the day for the Hebrew and Jew begins at sunset and ends at sunset if you consider Genesis 1:5 “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Now that it has been established that the Lord died before the Sabbath, the question needs to be answered, could there be more than one Sabbath? Yes, there were two Sabbaths. Chronologists have figured that in 30 AD that the 15th Nisan was a Thursday. Therefore, the 15th Nisan which came on Thursday was Passover Sabbath, according to John 19:14 “And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!”  Christ would have fulfilled the requirements for the Passover Lamb, as John the Baptist claimed that “He was the Lamb that taketh away the sins of the world”. Jesus had no blemish, Exodus 12:5; He was chosen on the 10th Nisan Exodus 12:3 and He did not have a broken bone John 19:36. Therefore, for there to be three days from death to resurrection as Jesus prophesied, He must have died on Wednesday afternoon and then resurrected early Sunday morning.
