The Eternal State of Little Children

[box]What happens to the little children who pass away in terrible “acts of nature” and what happens to the little babies who die before they have an opportunity to call on Christ as their Savior?

A great question that only the Lord in His loving kindness could possibly give us a secure answer. Let me share with you when I found the answer that brings hope to my heart: Wendy and I had a baby, thirty years ago that was born premature, I prayed and researched the Scriptures and found the following comfort in the Holy Bible, where else could we get the Lord’s peace?
  1. Bible believers recognize that all have sinned and are born with it according to Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” and verse 23, “23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” and Psalm 51:5 “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”
  2. The only way to have salvation is in the Lord Jesus Christ according to Romans 10:13 “For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”; John 14:6 6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
  3. Christ died on the Cross and resurrected from the grave for the salvation of all 1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.” Therefore, in summary no one is innocent everyone needs the Lord for entrance into heaven, yet Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient to please God’s holiness. Because God is gracious, and Christ’s death is sufficient for all mankind it allows the ability for eternity to be available for those who did not have the ability to reject His love or accept His salvation (mentally ill, premature death, young children).
  4. God gave the answer to David and he shared it through the Holy Spirit, remember David was in sin and slept with Bathsheba, she became pregnant, David dressed in mourning and prayed for God’s help in making the sick child well but then when the baby died he changed his disposition to hopeful recorded in 2 Samuel 12:21-23 “Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread. 22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? 23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” It leaves the message with David, who had committed sin with Bathsheba, that God would allow David to see his child someday (in Heaven) who had passed away without ever being able (age of accountability) to call upon the name of the Lord. David believed that those who could not believe because of their young age would not be judged into damnation of Hell, that is the gracious loving God I serve! Whatever God does is always pleasing to Him, for His glory, for our good therefore my position is that since David took comfort to know that his child born out of wedlock would be with the Lord, because he had not reached an age of accountability, that God is able to keep all children who pass away, safe with Him according to His loving kindness and mercy.
  5. However, I don’t let a day go bye that I don’t pray for my grandchildren to come to know the Lord as soon as they are able. God is able!
